Going Au Naturel

As a teenager, I'm sure I wasn't alone spending days in the back garden dyeing old t-shirts with fabric dye, and getting crafty with my clothing. Back then, I had no idea about the world of natural clothing dye, and it's only been in the past year or so that I actually became aware of it to tell you the truth. In my teenage days, the only thing available to me at the time was the brand Dylon, for young Meg it was pretty cheap and I could easily get my hands on it. But now there's a whole world of natural fabric dyes that I've been exposed to, although I must say, initially I was a little dubious about some that I researched.

I'm pretty sure the most commonly known are beetroot and turmeric, and if you've ever cooked with turmeric, then you'll know the strength that little spice has when it comes to staining. It was only until YouTube recommended a video for me, that I found someone using avocados to dye fabric pink; which then prompted me to try natural dye for myself as I became curious. Since avocados are already accessible in my household, I thought why not? And so after collecting as many avocado pits as I could, I took to trying it for myself with an old, white shirt.

The process wasn't too strenuous, you just need time more than anything. And in the end, there was a huge sense of accomplishment for my time and effort, which ended up producing a brand new shirt for myself. From this, I would absolutely try out natural fabric dyes again, and experiment with more crafty techniques using what I already have at home. For those who are also interested, I'll leave you with the full details on the process below, and perhaps you can try this for yourself too!
