Happy Halloween everyone! This year my Halloween is being spent with a face mask, Stranger Things, and of course lots of sweeties... I'd like to think that I've earned it after the sweaty fitness class I had this morning. But this weekend was spent with my friend's holding a huge Halloween party, which I was struggling to find a costume for as usually I don't 'dress up' for Halloween - Well, not since I was younger anyway. In the end I decided on a Maleficent / witch coven-style, and so based on some Pinterest inspo, I took to work with my planning. For my outfit I took a basic, black dress and my chunky brogue shoes, along with a thick, velvet choker and layered necklaces. Since my outfit was pretty simple, I knew that the make up needed to bring the outfit to life.
Thankfully, I was lucky enough to be invited by the lovely Steph Smith (@stephjsmithh) to the NYX counter down at Boots in Manchester's Arndale shopping centre, for a beauty sesh. Of course I brought with me some images of Maleficent in the original cartoon film Sleeping Beauty, with the idea of a green smoky eye, with a pop of purple on the water line. The make up artist Summer knew exactly how to make that work, as I mentioned that I didn't want the green to be too heavy, and so she suggested using a brown to smoke it out and tone it down - So we went with just that! Using NYX's Avant Pop! palette and the shade 03 Nouveau Chic for the purple shade, along with their Hot Singles Eye Shadow in Kush for the green shade, this was the perfect look that I needed.
My friend Megan had also come along with me, and decided that she wanted her skin prepping for the party later on. And so she began with the NYX Pore Filler which is a great drugstore dupe for other pore primers like Benefit's Porefessional and Kiehl's Skin Perfector. The colour match for her foundation was also spot on, finishing with a soft contour and a dark, brown nude lip with their Soft Matte Lip Cream in Abu Dhabi.
Afterwards, it was inevitable that we would be spending some more time at the NYX counter, where I caved and bought their Full Throttle Shadow Stick in Femme Fatal; which is the most amazing, vibrant purple shade, and worked really well with the purple in my waterline. I also grasped the chance and bought their powder blush in the shade Taupe, as I'd seen this being using for contour on pale complexions before since it's quite cool toned. Whilst browsing the vast lip section, I also saw their new range of Lip Suedes (Just to clarify, this isn't #spons #ad I simply just loved the colours!) After a few too many swatches I can safely say that their liquid lipsticks do not budge, and their new colours are amazing for Halloween looks, even making me want to experiment more with colour in my own make up routine.
If you're ever in Manchester, make sure to take a trip to Boots and the NYX counter, I'd deffo recommend, and the guys and gals who work there are always so lovely!
