Towards the end of last year, it would seem that liquid lipsticks were everywhere, and every brand seemed to be bringing them out left, right and centre. The Body Shop also joined the hype and released their own line of liquid lipsticks, which to be honest I was excited to try more than others. I've been a fan of their make up range for some time, and so when trying to find more cruelty-free make up, this was a perfect match for me. I'd first seen their release of these Matte Lip Liquids some time ago on Instagram, and immediately they intrigued me, as someone who's always been a lover of lipsticks.
In the past I've only ever tried liquid lipsticks from NYX and MUA, both of which I've been pretty impressed with. For anyone who isn't aware, like liquid lipsticks, these Lip Liquids are basically meant to have the pigment of a lipstick but in a lipgloss-style application; which for some is much easier than applying lipstick in it's usual bullet form. For this packaging, I love the simplicity of the matte, black tops and allocated colour tube to the shade that is is. Within their Lip Liquids, they also have metallic versions which are also dreamy, including their collaboration with Henry Holland, who is by far one of my all-time fave designers.
Their shade range is pretty impressive as a whole, with a good range of pink and brown-toned nudes, as well as some darker, vampy shades. I would perhaps love a bright orange or red in there too, for when the summer season finally comes around, but maybe they'll bring out more shades as the year goes on! The shades I have here are Cyprus Begonia 018 (Left) and Paris Peony 022 (Right). Cyprus Begonia is a darker, muted pink berry shade, whereas Paris Peony is a much brighter version of that, almost a fuchsia, which will be perfect for spring and summer.
When first applying these I will say that the pigment was pretty good, and I only needed two coats before I was set to go. I also purchased one of their Lip Definers to pair with Paris Peony, featured in a monthly favourites, which did help the application when outlining the lips, before filling in with the Lip Liquid. The formula, unlike when I've tried liquid lipsticks from NYX, seemed much lighter, and silkier in consistency, which meant it felt comfier on the lips and less drying.
As with anything that I review here, would I recommend? You know what, I would. I think that the Body Shop can be overlooked as a high street beauty brand, and these are surely good contenders with other liquid lipsticks that I've tried. In terms of longevity, these don't last as long as others that I've tried, but that doesn't mean they're any worse. On the plus side these are only £6 each, and when I purchased mine, they were part of a 3 for 2 deal along with the Lip Definer pencil. Overall, I've been quite impressed with these Lip Liquids, there shade range, feel and look are all appealing, although the longevity could be improved. As a finish, they're not too mattifying, perhaps more of a satin matte lipstick, and I'm super happy with the shades that I have here ready for spring - In fact, I may be nipping back into store to purchase another ready for summer too!
