I saw Donna Sheridan wear blue dungarees, so I bought blue dungarees, and now I feel that much closer to being in the next Mamma Mia film as Sophie's daughter as she recounts the story of her upbringing on the island and re-lives the same troubled love story as her dearly missed grandmother - Just a thought. If the writers need me, you know where to find me. Yes, I finally purchased my first pair of dungarees, well my first pair as an adult - I'm sure there's a photo somewhere of little Meg wearing a similar, if not the same thing. What I am rather shocked by with these dungarees though, is that I don't mind the corduroy material, as in the past I've avoided the stuff. Unless, like food, as we grow older we grow out of things we don't like? (I may have just made that up) Nevertheless, these slouchy-style dungarees are super comfy, and a great versatile piece, as you can throw on pretty much anything underneath - Including jumpers, t-shirts, or in this case an off-the-shoulder blouse in homage to Meryl herself. The crisp white always reminds me of summer style, and along with the boho fit, this combination is my interpretation of the iconic Donna Sheridan look. I was very close to wearing this to see the film itself when it came out at the cinema, but I didn't want to seem like too much of a superfan, as I think the choreography and harmonies from me and my two friends was enough for everyone else who was watching it with us.
As a piece, dungarees have always been something that I wanted to buy, but held off as I could never find the right style - That being with the knotted straps and button-down front. But Pull&Bear came to my rescue, as they often do, although I will say that I have to size-up whenever I do buy anything from them. Other than the sizing, the price is always right with them, and now I'm a dungaree convert, buying another two pairs from eBay. And so I thank you Donna Sheridan for creating an iconic look, and being the major influencer you are.
*UPDATE: I've recently been re-decorating my younger brother's bedroom, and now it's with great sadness that I have to report my dungarees are no longer with us. They ripped on the leg and were covered in paint by the end, but they served me well, and so let this post commemorate the short but happy time they spent in my wardrobe. That is all everyone.
